How we source our reporting

Every report cites the sources it rests on. This page shows which ones we rely on most over the last 90 days, and how often a report is anchored in an official or primary source.

How we rank sources

Official and primary sources — governments, militaries, agencies, courts, peer-reviewed journals and universities — are preferred, and where we can we link the document itself. Established outlets are used for reporting and reaction and must be corroborated by a second source before a claim is stated as fact. Aggregators and blogs are used to find stories, never as the basis of a claim.
